    GCSE Examinations Summer 2017

Aldworth students received their GCSE examination results today and we had many happy students thrilled with their results. There have been many changes to the examination system and how we now report outcomes for students. Our provisional headline figures are as follows

    • 75% of students achieved 4+ in English
    • 69% of students achieved 4+ Mathematics
    • 65% of students achieved 4+ in English and Mathematics

With the changes to the English and Mathematics, GCSE grade 4 and above is equivalent to grade C and above in the old grading structure. We were pleased to see that some of our students have achieved grade 9 in English and Mathematics: the top grade which has been described as “the upper end of the old A*.”

    • Overall 70% of students achieved 5+ A*-C (grade 4+) GCSEs.
    • Overall 62% of students achieved 5+ A*-C (grade 4+) GCSEs including English and Mathematics.
    • 10 students achieved the equivalent of A*/A grades in all their subjects.

We are delighted with this outcome as it exceeds the predictions for this cohort based on their prior attainment data from Key Stage 2. It also represents a strong performance despite the examination process becoming more rigorous. 70% of all students achieved 5 or more A*-C GCSE grades.

I am proud of all our students as they have worked incredibly hard throughout their time at Aldworth School to ensure they have achieved the progress they deserve. Many students attended additional revision classes held outside of the regular school hours. This has been a team effort with staff going ‘above and beyond’ to support them.
