    The careers and guidance provision at Aldworth is located in the back of the Learning Resource Centre in its own dedicated area to allow students to explore the resources at their leisure, while also providing an area to meet privately for advice.  There is a wealth of information relating to specific career options, apprenticeships, universities and college prospectuses, funding options and advice on C.V’s and personal statements.  It is also the base of our careers advisor, Michael Stockwell.  He can be found in the Careers & Guidance Hub every Monday and is available to offer individual support and guidance, focussed group sessions and help with anything career or college related.

    The choice of career is one of the most important decisions for a student. At Aldworth we deliver a comprehensive, up to date careers education and guidance program.  We aim to provide each student with the opportunity to learn about the full range of careers and the future choices that are available to them, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and confidence to progress seamlessly into further education and the world of work.

    Pupils and teachers access information about the Careers Programme through assemblies to promote the designated Careers & Guidance Hub, individual meetings with Michael Stockwell and through delivery of PSHE lessons.

    Parents are informed about the Careers Programme at Aldworth through the School Prospectus and targeted Open Evenings.  Additionally, they will receive correspondence about careers appointments that their child may have with external providers.

    Aldworth measures and assesses the impact of its careers provision though pupil panels in PSHE, comprehensive spreadsheet tracking to monitor which students have received independent guidance and a Leavers Destination Record.

    The next review of career provision at Aldworth will take place in Sept 2019.

    Policy Statement in compliance with Section 42B of the Education Act 1997, setting out the School’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to students for the purpose of giving them information about the providers education or training offer.

    Pupil Entitlement

    All pupils in Years 8-13 are entitled:

    • To find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
    • To hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships - through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events;
    • To understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.

    Management of Provider Access Requests

    Procedure:  A provider wishing to request access should contact Mrs Jenny Storey (Careers Lead) Telephone: 01256 322 691; Email: jenny.storey@aldworth.hants.sch.uk

    Opportunities for Access

    A number of events are scheduled into the School's calendar to support our careers programme:

    Premises and Facilities

    The School will make the Main Hall, classrooms, or private meeting rooms available for discussions between the provider and students, as appropriate to the activity. The School will also make available AV and other specialist equipment to support provider presentations. This will all be discussed and agreed in advance of the visit with the Careers Leader or a member of the School team. Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course literature to be made available through the Learning Resource Centre.
