Aims and philosophy of the department
The department aims to develop skills which will enable each individual to identify and creatively design solutions to problems or situations as they arise, taking into account the fast moving technology of the 21st century.
We aim to enable individuals to critically evaluate existing products and solutions, identifying what works well and what could be improved upon and designing ways this could be achieved.
We encourage individuals to consider the wider implications to climate change and the environment when designing solutions and to investigate and identify the most appropriate material and manufacturing methods available.
We expect pupils to consider the individuals for whom the design is intended, and to take into account any social, moral, cultural and religious issues involved when designing solutions.
The department currently consists of three, specialist trained, Design Technology teachers, and two technicians, all of whom are passionate about preparing students for future careers.
How can I support my child’s learning?
Homework plays an important role in Design Technology, to enable your child to fully participate in learning practical skills’ in lesson time; this must be completed to a good standard, and on time.
