Aims and philosophy of the Department
The Performing Arts departments provides opportunities for pupils to demonstrate achievement within the context of a challenging and motivating curriculum. We celebrate achievement and creating a climate, in which pupils feel secure, have fun, build friendships, reach targets and are given positive directions for their behavior. We build effective multi-agency partnerships with professionals, who also help to challenge and enrich pupils’ experiences. Young people learn best when they are in environments that are emotionally and physically safe. It is the mission of this department to provide such environments in the classroom, in extra-curricular activities and external visits in order to introduce them to the rich artistic human heritage around us.
We have presented a school production for the last ten years. These include:
- Broadway Spectacular
- Midsummer Nights Dream
- Wizard of Oz
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- Sweeney Todd
- As You Like It
- Alice in Wonderland
Concerts are a regular occurrence at Christmas, Spring term and summer alongside performances in the school hall every Tuesday lunchtime from various soloists and ensembles.
We run 'Aldworth's Got Talent' in the summer term that any student can enter. Parents are invited to attend the semi final in a formal concert and the finalists are announced. The finalists then perform to the whole school and the winner is given a prize.
