As well as providing many instrumental and performance based extra-curricular activities, we are also fortunate enough to have our very own purpose built recording studio. Recording provides an alternative, though not exclusive, musical outlet for those who enjoy playing and creating music but are perhaps less keen to perform in front of an audience.
Although predominantly used by the music department for recording GCSE performances, the studio is available at most break times for anyone who is interested in recording their music, from solo instrumentalists and singers to bands or electronic musicians.
The studio consists of two rooms: the control room, fully equipped with professional hardware and industry quality iMac recording software; and the live room, which is the performance area. The separation between the two rooms helps us to achieve the highest possible sound quality for our recordings.
We also have an impressive microphone collection to complement all instruments and a great sounding, well maintained drum kit, digital piano and guitar and bass amplifiers.
The best examples of music produced by our students in the studio are available to stream below:
Olly & Moesha – Fall In Love
Aspiring dance music DJ Olly and singer Moesha got together to record this lovely slice of RnB, originally written and recorded by Canadian artist Jahkoy.
Amy & Natasha – Power Of Love
This cover of the Gabrielle Aplin song was originally performed by Amy & Natasha as a vocal, piano and flute duo. Using the studio they were able to augment their sound by adding a drummer, guitarist and extra keyboard sounds.
Erin - Make You Feel My Love
During her regular guitar lesson, Erin told us that she had always wanted to try singing in a recording studio. After deciding on the song she would like to record we created an arrangment for her to sing to and a few break times later we have the finished article. GCSE student Laura assisted with the recording, editing and mixing of the song.
