Dear Parents / Carers,
Welcome to our school website. We are celebrating the summer exam success of our Year 11 students with 58% achieving 5 or more A*-C GCSE grades including English and Mathematics. The English Department are celebrating the best results they have seen in the history of the school and 74% of students achieving A*-C grades. With 70% of students achieving A*-C grades in Mathematics the overall figure for students gaining both English and Mathematics A*-C grades stands at 64%.
There have been some outstanding individual performances from our students with more than 20% achieving 10 or more A*-C GCSE grades including English and Mathematics. Four of our students achieved 11 A*-C grades with our Head Girl, Lauren Wiltshire, achieving 11 A* and A grades. Congratulations go to these and all of our students who worked hard to ensure they achieved their absolute best.
We have high expectations of our students and this is reflected in their progress, aspirations and conduct around the school. Having analysed all reports to parents during 2013-2014 we can confirm the vast majority of our students have been judged, by subject teachers, as either having outstanding or good attitudes to learning.
Our school is a vibrant learning community with an ethos of ambition and achievement. We were judged as good in all categories by OFSTED in February last year and you are welcome to view our OFSTED report, which is available on this website.
We are excited about our building programme in that we have started a £1.5 million external refurbishment programme on our largest building, due for completion early next year. This will enhance an already impressive site. If you would like to find out more about us, please take a few moments to explore the rest of the website as we have significantly upgraded it during the last few months.
Aldworth is a successful school and we are a popular choice with parents. We have 950 students currently on roll and have been over-subscribed with applications for Year 7 places in the last two years with 200 students on roll in our current Year 7 and Year 8 cohorts (our maximum permitted number).
Our Open Evening, held on Tuesday 22nd September, was very well attended with at least 329 families visiting us and touring the School. We received many positive comments from parents about the atmosphere, ethos, welcome and the quality of the displays and information available. Our staff, students and governors worked hard to ensure that all questions were answered!
On Tuesday 30tt September we held our annual Open Morning which proved extremely popular. Sixty one families were able to tour the school, with our Year 8 guides, during the normal timetabled day. All of the comments we received were very supportive and senior staff were available in the library to chat to parents. Our school tours have also been well attended and we completed the last one on Wednesday 22nd October.
If you are considering Aldworth as a school for your child, transferring from primary school in September 2015, please remember that the deadline for applications to Hampshire Local Authority (for Hampshire residents) was Friday 31st October 2014. If you missed this deadline I recommend that you contact the Local Authority as soon as possible, but please let us know directly as well as we are able to provide support with the ‘late application process’. In the meantime I encourage you to view our on-line prospectus which provides an excellent introduction to our school community.
