Visit from BBC Apprentice Mark Wright
Aldworth School welcomed Mark Wright, the BBC Apprentice 2014 winner, on Friday 15 April. He attended an event organised by Be Wiser Insurance aimed at providing Year 10 and 11 students with more information on level 2, level 3 and degree level qualifications offered by the company.
Mark’s involvement provided an insight into his personal journey; starting out in Australia moving to London and then being selected as a contestant on the popular BBC1 progrmme. Mark was hired by Lord Sugar and now works in partnership with him. We were fortunate to be able to host an event like this, welcoming a guest who was able to inspire students by providing personal and real accounts of his own experiences of where he has got to in life. Mark certainly did this extremely well!
In his presentation to students Mark explained how he arrived in London with just £140 in his pocket to then securing £250,000 from winning the Apprentice. He is now in partnership with Alan Sugar as Director of a multi-million pound business. Mark also shared his continued ambitions for the future. Students had prepared questions for him and he was happy to respond and also remained at the end to have a few photographs with them.
We were particularly impressed to hear that Mark values the coaching he receives and mentioned Lord Sugar and Mark Bower-Dyke (Chairman of Be Wiser) specifically as his mentors. This was particularly pertinent to some of our Year 11 students who receive mentoring from staff to help them with their progress at school. We are hoping to be able to increase our mentoring capacity next year.
