Visit by David Dein MBE
Aldworth School students were inspired by former Arsenal Football Club Vice Chairman, David Dein MBE.
David joined the Arsenal Board in 1983, was Vice-Chairman of the Football Association and has served on numerous UEFA and FIFA Committees.
David was an early proponent of women’s football having been President of the hugely successful Arsenal Ladies Team.
David visited Aldworth on Friday 20th September to present a talk to Year 10 students. He inspired students with his knowledge of men's and women's football, the development of the game over the last few years as well as some insights into VAR being used this season in the Premiere League.
The aim of his visit was to inspire students and one student commented "David has motivated me as his presentation held my interest for the entire talk"
David Griffiths, Associate Assistant Headteacher, introduced David at the start of the presentation and said: “During David's reign, the club won the League five times, the FA Cup five times, the UEFA Cup Winners Cup, the League Cup twice and the Community Shield five times. A total of 18 trophies”.
Denis McCabe, Headteacher, said that through our work with Speakers for Schools we have had access to a variety of inspirational speakers. David Dein is our most recent visitor and his message and style of delivery went down well with the audience.
