Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch-up Premium
As part of the schools commitment to raising standards we ensure that we carry out a thorough transition program with feeder primary schools, students, and their families, so that we are able to quickly identify students who may benefit from additional literacy and numeracy support.
All students have access to additional literacy and numeracy interventions that are embedded within the tutor program. We also have a focus within all lessons of closing the vocabulary gap by ensuring students are introduced to 3 key words per lesson.
For those students who need additional support to close the gap, we have a range of initiatives which can be used to support learners.
The school was allocated £10,865 for the academic year 2018-19 to spend on Year 7 literacy and numeracy catch up strategies. This is to support students who had not achieved the expected standard in reading or maths at the end of Key stage 2.
The funding is allocated for the following initiatives:
Maths Teaching Assistant interventions 1:1 and small group work |
£4,080 |
English Dept roll out of Accelerated Reader programme – licence and set up costs for year 7s |
£4,120 |
Training time for staff for Accelerated Reader |
£680 |
Lead Practitioner – year 7 interventions for reading (tutor time activities) |
£825 |
LSA time within SEN – literacy work 1:1 |
£1,160 |
Evaluation of these strategies will be completed at the end of the academic year.
