At Aldworth School the Learning Support Department is a creative hub which supports all staff to support all students with complex and different needs to access the curriculum and to succeed.
Our vision is summed up in one word - Champion. This word has several meanings which include; to defend, to surpass and excellence. The aim of the department is to vigorously defend the students who have additional needs, to enable students to access the curriculum so that they can make progress and to do this with excellence. The core team is led by a Specialist Lead Teacher, an Assistant SENCO and ten Learning Support Assistants. The Learning Support Assistants work predominately in the classroom alongside the subject teacher in order to enable students to access the curriculum and they are trained in many strategies to differentiate learning.
Part of our core values are to work in partnership with parents, students and outside agencies so that each student can maximize their potential and enable them to make the transition to adulthood as independent members of society.
We also run vibrant shorter courses that focus on Social Communication, Speech and Language, English as a Second Language, Dyslexia/Study skills and ELSA (Emotional Literacy Supoprt Assistant). At Key Stage 4 we offer the subject option of Personal & Social Development.
