    Certificate Presentation Evening 2016

We welcomed back the Year 11 ’Class of 2016’ to our annual Certificate Presentation Evening on Wednesday 9th November. Our former students were awarded a range of prizes for progress, achievement and endeavour. The evening was well attended and all students were publically awarded their certificates. It was great to see them and hear about their experiences of college, work based apprenticeships and life beyond secondary school.

We were delighted to welcome Mark Wright back to Aldworth, he visited us earlier in the year to talk at a Key Stage 4 Assembly. Mark is the 2014 BBC Apprentice Winner and now runs a number of successful businesses including Climb Online, the venture he started with Lord Sugar as his business partner. Mark gave an honest and entertaining personal account of his own experiences including his time on the show and how he was selected, from more than 50,000 applicants, to be one of the candidates.

Mark has a hectic schedule and travelled down from an engagement in Nottingham and then headed off to Bristol after our event. He arrived early in order to attend a Question & Answer Session with some of our current Year 11 students before the evening celebrations began.

During that session students discovered that Mark supports two charities: Macmillan Cancer Support and The Prince’s Trust where he works one day a month. We made a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support on his behalf and Mark was delighted with this. He has included a picture and comments on his Twitter account!

Our headline figures for 2016 are that 60% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C GCSE grades including English and Mathematics. Whilst these are great headlines for the school they come from each student working to achieve his or her best and it is actually the individual performances of our young people that matter most to us. They should be rightly proud of themselves. The strong partnerships we have between school, home and our students makes all the difference.

A great evening, thanks to everyone who was involved in any way.

“We all had a fantastic evening and it was a delight to welcome back our students - all of whom worked so hard to achieve success in the summer”

“Mark provided a humorous and entertaining talk that delivered a powerful message. Having a successful, hard-working, role model who has achieved so much since winning the Appentice is inspiring”

“The achievement of our students are the result of a huge team effort from staff, parents and of course the students themselves”
